A DRIVER who got behind the wheel while more than three times the legal drug limit has been banned from the roads.

Michael Chigwada, of Kingsbury Drive, Wilmslow, admitted drug driving at Crewe Magistrates Court on November 23.

The 20-year-old was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa on Dean Row Road in Wilmslow, on May 26, this year, when he was stopped by police.

A subsequent test revealed he was over the legal drug limit.

A test recorded more than 7µg/L of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, an ingredient of cannabis, in his blood.

The limit for this breakdown product is 2µg/L.

Chigwada was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Disqualification is obligatory for drug driving offences, the court heard.

The defendant was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £120 costs and £48 victim surcharge.

Magistrates took his guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.

The £288 court penalty is due to be paid in full by December 21.
