MOTORISTS are being warned of major disruption on the M6 following a ‘police incident’ this afternoon, Wednesday.

Three lanes are closed and very slow traffic is being reported on the northbound carriageway.

This is between junction 20 for the M56 at Lymm Interchange and junction 21 for the A57 Manchester Road at Woolston.

Traffic stretches back to junction 19 for Northwich and Knutsford at Tabley and motorists are advised to find alternative routes or allow extra time for journeys.

Cheshire Police has confirmed that the incident relates to a police pursuit.

A spokesman said: “At around 3.30pm on Wednesday, November 8, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the A49 near Stretton, Warrington.

“The vehicle, a black BMW convertible, failed to stop and made off onto the M56 and then onto the M6.

“Police subsequently stopped the vehicle near to junction 20 of the M6 northbound, and the driver, a 33-year-old man from Manchester, has been arrested for a number of offences.

“Three lanes are currently closed between junction 20 and 21 while officers are dealing with the incident, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.”
