A MAN has been hit with a £1,500 court penalty for refusing to give police the name of a driver suspected of committing an offence.

Christopher Poole, of Hollin Lane, Styal, Wilmslow, pleaded guilty to the offence at Manchester Magistrates Court on October 25.

An officer from Greater Manchester Police had requested the name of the driver of a Mercedes in Manchester on April 18, this year.

The motorist was alleged to have been guilty of a road traffic offence, the court heard.

Poole, aged 48, was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £400 victim surcharge and £90 costs.

Magistrates also endorsed his driving licence with six points.

The defendant’s guilty plea was taken into consideration when the sentence was imposed.

Poole was given until December 6 to pay the £1,490 court penalty.
