A MAN who got behind the wheel whilst being more than three times over the legal drug limit has been banned from the road.

Benjy Toon, of St John’s Vale, Knutsford, admitted drug driving when the case was heard at Crewe Magistrates Court on October 2.

The 45-year-old was driving a Citroen Nemo on Longridge in Knutsford on April 4, this year, when he was stopped by the police.

A subsequent blood test recorded Toon had not less than 7ugL of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, an ingredient of cannabis, in his blood.

The limit for this breakdown product is 2ug/L.

Toon was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Disqualification is obligatory for drug driving offences, the court heard.

The defendant was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £120 costs and £48 surcharge.

Magistrates took his guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.

Toon was given permission to pay the £288 court penalty at a rate of £20 per month, starting on December 1.
