DRIVERS ignoring road signs to avoid Knutsford sink hole roadworks are being penalised.
Police issued more than 20 tickets to motorists who turned right at the bottom of Minshull Street yesterday, Monday.
Drivers can only turn left but are flouting the rules to escape traffic congestion.

A spokesman for Knutsford Police said: “We understand the frustrations regarding the congestion due to roadworks on Toft Road but drivers should drive to the rules of the road.
“Police have issued more than 20 tickets to drivers turning right into King Street, when they are supposed to follow the sign to proceed left only.
“Many drivers stated that they didn’t realise the sign was there but it is clearly marked.
“Police will be monitoring the situation as clearly this action could result in an accident.
“Any vehicles found committing this dangerous manoeuvre will be prosecuted.”
Roadworks to finally sort out a sink hole that has plagued the town centre for three years are being carried out.
The ‘unusually complex’ repair on Toft Road between the Curzon cinema and the railway station is expected to take two months.
The problem has been exacerbated because it has been confirmed that the collapsed pavement is above an underground tunnel.
It is believed the hidden passage once linked the station to the old courthouse.
