A CHARITY which has been helping the Knutsford community for almost 50 years has issued a call for new members to join its ranks.

Knutsford Lions is well known in the town for a number of its community events, including providing Christmas Day lunch for people who would otherwise be on their own; a late May community fair on Knutsford Heath; a free variety show in February for our senior citizens; and a charity concert in the Autumn.

The charity is affiliated to Lions Clubs International, which has 1.4 million members worldwide working to support their local communities and other good causes.

Now, as he is installed as Knutsford Lions president for a fourth year, Paul Buttrick is urging people to get involved.

He said: “Knutsford Lions is in need of new members at the moment, having dropped numbers after the pandemic and recent retirements.

"We are a small relaxed club with both men and women members, who are only expected to do what they are comfortable with and able.

"Many friendships have been made through Lions and we hold social events throughout the year.

"We are looking for people of all ages who would like to get satisfaction helping their local community with like-minded people.

"We’d love to hear from you, there are no age restrictions, those who might enjoy being a Lion could include the recently retired and ‘empty nesters’ – people who for whatever reason, find themselves with a bit more free time on their hands.”

Knutsford Lions President Paul Buttrick put out a call for new members to join them as he was installed for a fourth year at a recent club meeting.

Every penny raised by the Lions goes on to charities, with no administration costs.

The Knutsford Lions carry out a house to house Christmas Appeal and other events to enable the charity to support many local organisations.

Its annual Wenceslas Appeal also supports local people with crisis hardship through the Welcome and Citizens Advice (Cheshire North).

The next Lions event is a charity concert on November 10 in St Johns Parish Church, Knutsford, with seven-piece live band, Silhouette, playing iconic songs from the 1960s.
