A WOMAN who died near the M56 has now been identified after police released photos of her clothing and belongings.
Officers were called to the Thornley Lane bridge at around 2.40am on Monday, July 31, after people raised concerns for a woman’s welfare.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the woman sadly died.
Her death is not being treated as suspicious.
The identity of the woman was unknown.
Police released photos of the jewellery and coat she was wearing in the hope of finding her loved ones.
Now, nine days after she died, police have confirmed that these images have helped officers to identify the woman.
In a statement today, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The woman who sadly died near the M56 on 31 July has now been identified, and the appropriate arrangements are now being made.
“Thank you very much to everyone who shared our appeal.”
