AN energetic firefighter has conquered a gruelling 300-mile challenge.

Knutsford fire station watch manager Anthony Naylor has completed a non-stop 24-hour bike ride – wearing full firefighting kit.

So far, his epic marathon has raised almost £700 for The Firefighters Charity and Mencap, a charity that helps and supports people with learning disabilities.

Wellwishers described his feat as ‘a fantastic effort’ for ‘two brilliant causes’.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides life-enhancing support to the UK’s fire and rescue community.

Anthony expressed his appreciation to everyone on social media.

In a post, he said: “Thank you for the generosity of local members of the community who have visited and everyone who has donated.”

He also thanked Williamson’s bakery for treats which ‘certainly kept me going’.

Firefighters and members of the public cheered Anthony as he pedalled outside the front of the fire station on Mobberley Road from 12 noon on Monday, July 31, to 12 noon the following day.

The first hour riding in fire kit, he said, was ‘very warm’ and he was grateful for the rain and the cool breeze.

Anthony set himself the Wattbike challenge three years ago and hopes to raise £1,000.
