A 'CARELESS' driver has been banned from the roads after crashing into and seriously injuring a cyclist.

Max Retburg had been driving towards the crossroads at Stocks Lane and Well Bank Lane in Over Peover on August 9 last year when the collision occurred.

The 37-year-old BMW driver, of Knutsford Road, Chelford, crashed into the cyclist at around 8am.

The cyclist, a 55-year-old man from Macclesfield, suffered broken ribs, a broken arm and a haematoma.

Retburg was charged with causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving and pleaded guilty when he appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on Wednesday (July 26).

Taking his plea into account, magistrates disqualified Retburg from driving for 12 months and ordered him to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay court costs of £120 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a surcharge of £114.
