THE family of a terminally ill young woman are continuing their trek across Cheshire to fulfil her last wish to pull a pint in 100 different pubs.

Caitlin Shaw has always wanted to be a barmaid and when mum Sam MacVicar posted on social media asking if people could help her tick off her bucket list, countless pubs and bar staff came forward – from Northwich all the way to Shrewsbury.

After a trip around Northwich pulling pints back in April, shortly after the 21-year-old was placed on end-of-life care, she is doing another trip of pint-pulling, this Saturday, July 15, to Knutsford.

Mum Sam said: “We can’t thank everyone enough; the support has been overwhelming.

“We’ve had hundreds and hundreds of pubs wanting to help out, and for Caitlin to visit.”

On her trip to Knutsford, the Caitlin will stop at 14 different pubs and bars across the town.

A GoFundMe, which has since been closed, was set up for her end-of-life care, which saw the family raise more than £17,000.

The family is now raising money for SSAFA, the special forces charity. Money raised will also go to Caitlin’s Wishes, a fund to help Caitlin tick off achievements on her bucket list.

Sam said: “Her stepdad, Mac MacVicar, is ex-forces, and we’ve got so much support from people in the forces.

“He’s actually doing a 160-mile walk in August, splitting the funds between SSAFA and Caitlin’s Wishes.”

Above all, however, the trip and ticking off her bucket list have been something to make Caitlin smile.

“She gets quite tired towards the end of the days, but she is enjoying herself and smiling,” Sam said.

“She’s meeting new people and having fun.

“We went on a cruise recently as part of her bucket list and lots of people recognised her from a BBC piece on her. She thought she was famous!”

“Above all the fact she is smiling is amazing to see. She hasn’t had much to smile about in the last 21 years.

“She keeps saying, she’s defying the doctors!”

Knutsford Guardian:

Since April’s visit to Northwich, Caitlin has also ticked off multiple trips on her bucket list.

These include a trip to see ‘The Script’, her favourite band, in Blackpool, being led on a 100-motorbike ride to Wales and pulling a pint at the pub from Coronation Street.

On the end of the 100-pub journey, Sam said Chester was the planned endpoint.

“That is where we would like to finish, it’s where our family feel is the right place.”
