THE new headteacher of Knutsford Academy has vowed to provide ‘world class opportunities’ for every pupil.

Karen Key took the helm at the beginning of the summer term following the retirement of previous head James Whittaker.

Mrs Key will focus on the three values of ambition, kindness and respect in all areas of school life.

“I am immensely proud to be appointed to the role,” said Mrs Key, who has worked at Knutsford Academy for 26 years.

After starting as a biology teacher, she served most recently as deputy headteacher.

“The school is in a very strong position,” she said.

“We have extraordinary students and a dedicated and talented group of staff.

“Our expectations are high.

“We insist on exemplary conduct and encourage all students to do their very best in all they do, including getting involved in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities.”

Pledging to deliver on high academic achievement, she believes sustaining a strong community is very important.

The Academy has experienced significant growth in student numbers in recent years which sees it continually oversubscribed.

This has been supported by ongoing success in exam results.

In sixth form at A Level students have achieved a 100 per cent pass rate with 40 per cent of grades at A or A*.

At GCSE, results are well above the national averages, making it one of the top performing state secondary schools in the country.

Mrs Key said: “I want all our students to leave us confident, kind, respectful and successful young people ready to take their place in society.

“I plan to build on the firm foundation we have, to deliver an even more outstanding education, even stronger pastoral care and even more opportunities for our students.

“I know that a successful and happy school depends on all of us working together.

“Parents and carers make an enormously important contribution to our students’ achievements.

“I am looking forward to building on that relationship to support all our students as we move forward together.”
