WORK to resurface a major road through town and re-paint markings on the carriageway has been welcomed by residents.
Cheshire East Council's highways team this week began resurfacing Toft Road in Knutsford after receiving numerous calls to do so.
Residents and drivers alike had raised concerns over the state of the road and the lack of markings to aid traffic at the town's main roundabout.
There have reportedly been several near misses at the roundabout as some drivers have been unaware what lane they need to be in due to the faded road markings.
So concerned have some residents been, one pensioner - Peter Sharratt, of Tabley Road, even took it upon himself to spray temporary markings on the road.
A Cheshire East Council spokesman confirmed the current works had been scheduled some time ago and are due to be completed by Saturday, July 1.
Earlier this month, the spokesman had said: "The council identifies work through an asset management approach and, due to limited budgets available, we have to prioritise work across the borough.
"In addition, the council has invested additional money into the highways budget, and this has seen the road marking budget increase for 2022/23 and 2023/24."
Peter Sharratt, aged 71, said: "It’s a relief that at long last the council is completing a job which should have formed part of the original roadworks contract many months ago.
"Let’s just rejoice and say ‘Thank You’."
