FOUR intrepid cyclists are tackling a daunting 444km challenge to help people suffering with life-limiting illnesses.

The riders will cycle through four European countries in four days and hope to raise £10,000 for East Cheshire Hospice.

The ‘Fantastic Four’, made up of Jonathan Spencer, Sean Harper, Tom Healey and Nick Stone, embark on their marathon on July 1.

The team all work for S&G Response, an insurance outsourcing company in Wilmslow.

Operations director Nick Stone, one of the riders, said: “Our challenge is for a great charity close to a lot of people around the business so it will be an achievement to raise as much as we can for the hospice.

“Over the last few years with S&G, we have undertaken a number of different challenges, including cycling to Paris and Amsterdam, running the Manchester Marathon, completing the David Goggins Challenge and hitting golf balls over one million yards.

“This seemed like the perfect next test for our team.”

Their test of endurance starts in Calais, France, then passes through Bruges in Belgium and Maastricht in the Netherlands, finishing in Cologne, Germany, on July 4.

S&G Response has raised or donated more than £63,000 and provided more than 380 volunteering hours to a host of local good causes in the last 12 months.

This charity has been chosen as it is close to the hearts of their employees.

The hospice requires £3.5 million each year to operate.

The hospice is a completely free service for patients and their families, and only receives 17 per cent of their running costs from the Government.

They rely on the kind support and donations of individuals and companies to help keep the hospice running.

Carley Macey, community and events manager at East Cheshire Hospice said: “We are incredibly grateful for Jonathan, Sean, Tom, and Nick’s support and all those who are supporting them with their challenge.

“The Fantastic Four’s dedication and determination captures the spirit of our community, and their efforts will help us continue providing vital care and support to those in need.

“Everyone at East Cheshire Hospice wishes them every success on this remarkable journey.”
