AN inquest has been opened into the death of a 54-year-old man who died after complaining of a headache while in police custody.

Graham Michael Edwards, of Hollins Green, died on April 5 at Warrington Hospital.

An inquest opening was heard at Warrington Coroner's Court on Wednesday.

During the hearing, brief details of his death were confirmed and a full inquest date was arranged.

The hearing heard how Mr Edwards was being questioned in police custody when he complained of a having headache.

He was subsequently taken to Warrington Hospital where he died.

His cause of death is currently under investigation and a full inquest will take place on September 13.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "On April 2, a 53-year-old man had a medical episode at Runcorn Custody Suite and was taken to hospital.

"Sadly the man died days later.

"The matter was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, in accordance with standard procedures, and referred back to Cheshire Police.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
