A DRIVER clocked speeding through roadworks on a motorway has been hit with a court penalty of £300.

Aboteze Ahmad, of Wilmslow Road, Handforth, Wilmslow, pleaded not guilty at Manchester Magistrates Court on December 12.

The 36-year-old was caught driving a Volkswagen Passat on the M62 westbound between junctions 11 and 10 in Manchester at a speed of 48mph on April 4, last year.

The temporary speed limit on the day in question was 40mph due to ‘smart motorway’ roadworks, the court heard.

After listening to the evidence, magistrates found Ahmad guilty.

The defendant was fined £220 and ordered to pay £90 costs and £34 victim surcharge.

His driving licence was endorsed with three points.

Ahmad was given until January 9, 2023, to pay the £344 court penalty.
