A HAIR salon has pledged to raise quarter of a million pounds to help save women’s lives.

Staff at Saks Knutsford have teamed up with colleagues across the country to collect £250,000 target for The Eve Appeal.

This is the UK’s only gynaecological cancer raising awareness of womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal cancers and funding medical research to save women’s lives.

The salon on Minshull Street has been raising money for charity since it opened six years ago.

Salon manager Paul Wood said: “The first year we did a cycle ride to our head office in Darlington.

“It took two days and we raised £10,000.

“The girls have done a sky dive and I did a trek across the Peak District.

“We do something every year.”

Last year, L’Oreal colour specialist Estelle Smith climbed Ben Nevis.

Paula cut the hair of residents in a care home for free and gave all donations to the appeal.

“We’d like to say a big thank you everyone for their loyalty and generosity,” said Paula, a hair stylist for more than 30 years.

“All our clients are fantastic. We treat them like friends and like to make them feel special. They are part of our family.”

The salon uses biodegradable towels and is now part of Green Salon Collective which aims to recycle and reuse salon waste.

“Everyone’s hair is recycled,” said Paula. “It is used for cleaning oil spills and growing mushrooms.

“Profits are donated to the homeless and food charities.”

Anyone thinking of starting the new year with a new look is welcome to pop in.

“We invite people to come in for a consultation so we can talk about their lifestyle,” said Paula.

“We spend time getting to know them so we can suggest what will work best for them.

“We’ve got a very strong team here, everyone gets on.

“I enjoy the social and creative side. It’s the perfect job.”
