DRIVERS using the M56 are being warned of another overnight closure as work on a smart motorway nears completion.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed this evening, Tuesday at 9pm until 6am tomorrow, Wednesday, between junctions seven and five.

Entry slip roads on this section of the M56 from Manchester Airport to where the M56 joins the M6 will also be closed.

National Highways is constructing an all-lane running motorway.

The roadworks have caused delays and disruption for motorists from junction six at Hale Barns to junction seven and eight at Bowdon interchange for the past two years.

The scheme was due to be completed by the end of November 2022.

Highway bosses have confirmed that delays to the programme mean roadworks will continue into the new year.
