TWO parties have announced their candidates to stand for the Tatton constituency in the next General Election.

Members of the Tatton Green Party have selected Nigel Hennerley as their representative, while the new True & Fair Party selected Paul Farragher.

Incumbent MP Esther McVey has held the seat for the Conservatives since 2017.

Created for the 1983 election, the seat has been held by two other Conservatives - Neil Hamilton (1983-1997) and George Osborne (2001-2017) - and one Independent, Martin Bell (1997-2001).

The next General Election isn't due until January 2025 with new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ruling out calling one earlier despite calls to do so.

Mr Hennerley, who will be standing for the Green Party in his third election, said he was 'proud and honoured' to stand again.

He said: "Over the last year or so we have seen a shambolic and chaotic Tory government now evolve to an extreme right of centre version with policy more based on a hard line ideology than stable balanced economics.

"This government has been infiltrated by the Net Zero Scrutiny Group right to the heart of cabinet.

"I strongly felt the need to ensure people in Tatton would have the opportunity to vote for the environment, climate action and a just and fair society.

"With support of more than 92 per cent of Tatton members on the first round of selection I am proud and honoured to stand again for the Green Party.

"A vote for the greens is never wasted. Our collected voice can and does influence policy of every main stream party, and we will continue to counter the dangerous and reckless decisions to which we are currently exposed."

Grandfather-of-seven Mr Farragher will be standing in the next election for the True & Fair Party, which launched earlier this year to highlight and campaign against political corruption.

The 60-year-old retired publican and former nightclub owner applied to be a candidate because he wishes to fight for change and policies against anti-corruption, ethics and Lords reform.

Announcing Mr Farragher as a candidate, True & Fair Party leader Gina Miller said: "What the political debacles of the past few years – and the Conservative humiliations of the past few weeks – have shown is that weak political systems, corruption, and incompetence only lead to chaos.

"The True & Fair Party is in its infancy, so we are focusing our resources on 20-30 seats held by those who have been propping up an embarrassment of a government.

"What we aim to do is show that politics is no longer about right and left, but right and wrong.

"Our candidates represent what is good about British society, they want the best for our country and are passionate about fairness. Working together, this is just the start of our mission to clean-up Britain’s dirty politics.

"Paul Farragher is a father-of-three from a working-class family who has previously worked as a gas man for British Gas, taxi driver and former nightclub owner who has a strong passion and drive to clean up the dishonest politics and address the issues of the most vulnerable and deprived in our communities."
