NEW planters are brightening up a railway platform.

Volunteers and Friends of Holmes Chapel Railway Station have received £500 from Anwyl Homes to fund new containers for plants at the front of the building.

Volunteer Tony Wright said: “Our Manchester-bound platform is right next to the new homes being built at Victoria Mills.

“When we saw that funding was available through the 'Love from Anwyl’ fund, we suggested partnering with the company to spruce up the front of the station.

“Our group’s aim is to provide a pleasant environment for travellers and visitors to Holmes Chapel using the railway station.

“These planters make a real impact as passengers approach and certainly brighten up the walkway.”

The funding was one of several grants distributed by the homebuilder v to help local not-for-profit organisations close to its development on Macclesfield Road.

Graeme Gibb, sales director for Anwyl Homes, said: “Our Victoria Mills development is now really taking shape.

“As a good neighbour, we wanted to support local groups and organisations in the area.

“When we heard of the impressive work that The Volunteers and Friends of Holmes Chapel Railway Station and Viaduct were undertaking, we knew it would be a great cause to support.

“We particularly appreciate their efforts in improving the environment for residents and visitors.

“The planters look great and we hope they will keep the station blooming for many years.”

Love From Anwyl is a voluntary scheme attached to 138 new homes being built at Victoria Mills.

This is in addition to local investment agreed during the planning process.
