A PASSION for plants has inspired a horticulturalist to branch out.

Graham Jones is encouraging adults and children to create their own mini tropical gardens inside a terrarium jar.

The 50-year-old has closed his stall on Knutsford Market following a fall in trade and decided to offer people instead a much more interactive experience.

His business, Deliveroot, specialises in houseplants, exotic houseplant kits, accessories, seeds and bulbs alongside planters and containers.

To share his knowledge and expertise, he has developed opportunities for people to have a go themselves in fun-filled, relaxing sessions.

He has teamed up with bars and restaurants to run workshops where enthusiasts can learn about planting and enjoy some tasty food.

“It occurred to me that plants can be the basis of social activity,” said Graham, from Weaverham.

“I offer events where people come and experience planting their own tropical terrarium garden,” said Graham.

“It’s a social event where you can be creative, create memories and take something home that is stunning and easy to care for.”

Self-taught Graham has always loved fresh produce and foliage.

“I had a small business selling fruit and veg and loved visiting farms,” he said.

“Combined with my love of gardens, I wanted to find new plants.

“Trying lots of different things has benefits for your mental and physical health.

“It is very therapeutic. You get lost in your own little world through the creative process of art. It de-stresses you.

“I’ve learnt through trial and error but there are certain golden rules I always try to pass on to my customers.”

Graham enjoys sharing tips about soil, compost and looking after plants.

“I hope to take away the mystery of it all,” he said.

“Success isn’t always about the money you earn, it’s about what you’ve learned and your relationships with other people.”

Graham is running a workshop at The Lost and Found in Knutsford at 6.30pm on Tuesday, September 13.

A terrarium building workshop is being held at Potyo Coastal Indian restaurant in Wilmslow at 12 noon on Sunday, September 18.

A large selection of unusual, carefully chosen plants and all the materials and jars will be provided.

Graham can also run workshops as private parties, work social events and teambuilding.
