TWO enthusiastic golfers have achieved a phenomenal target to help save lives.

The captain and lady captain of Heyrose Golf Club in Knutsford completed a new ’18 on 18 challenge’ for their chosen charities.

Captain Nick Shennan, from Middlewich, and lady captain Kathy Smith, from Pickmere, played one hole on 18 courses across Cheshire – in one day.

The pair raised more than £2,000 for Knutsford First Responders and British Heart Foundation.

Event organiser Tony Gear, from Sandbach, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who supported us, those who donated and our proprietors, Elizabeth and Hugo Bridge for the reception and buffet.

“As well as the charities, the real winner is Cheshire golf.

“Each club proved what a wonderful family we are, all supporting and allowing us the use of their course for charities that benefit us all.”

The pair teed off in the early morning dew at 6.30am on Tuesday, August 30 at Antrobus golf club.

During the day, they teed off at clubs in Lymm, High Legh, Mere, Knutsford, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Prestbury, Tytherington, Macclesfield, Congleton, Astbury, Alsager, Malkins Bank, Sandbach, Vale Royal Abbey, Sandiway and Heyrose.

After the 100-mile trek, representatives of all the clubs were invited to a celebration.

Tony said: “We were 20 minutes early for the return home so a well earned drink was taken at the bar at Sandiway, then onto the 18th hole at Heyrose.

“A crowd of around 50 watched the last hole.

“A number of people came to support us throughout the day.”
