A MAN has been jailed for driving home from court - right after he was banned from the roads.

Ryan Tuckman, of Saltersbrook Grove, Wilmslow, appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on July 28 earlier this summer charged with two counts of drug driving.

The 29-year-old had been caught in Dean Row Road on June 28 with 421 microgrammes of Benzoylecgonine (a breakdown product of cocaine) and 6.7 microgrammes of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of his blood.

The respective limits are 50 microgrammes and two microgrammes.

Magistrates banned him from the roads for these offences, but Tuckman was caught behind the wheel driving away from the court hearing.

Hauled back to court on August 22, Tuckman pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and also being in possession of cannabis, a class B drug.

But, despite taking into account his guilty plea, magistrates jailed him for eight weeks for his 'flagrant disregard of court orders'.

Tuckman was also handed another 48-month driving ban and was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £154 surcharge.

He was also ordered to forfeit the cannabis, which was seized by Cheshire Police for destruction.

Sergeant Ian Smith, of Cheshire Police’s Roads and Crime Unit, said: “Tuckman knew he had been disqualified from driving yet still drove to court on the day he was due to be banned and brazenly got back into it to drive home.

“He clearly thought that his chances of being stopped by an officer were low and that he would get away with it.

“This should serve as a warning to other motorists who believe that they can get behind the wheel of a vehicle while disqualified because not only is it against the law but officers can be anywhere, at any time meaning you are likely to also be caught.”
