PRIDE villagers have in keeping their station in tip top condition is set to win another national award.

The Friends of Goostrey Station, affectionately known as FOGS, feel so honoured of their seven Best Kept Station awards, a photograph of the team is mounted on the platform.

The celebration picture, entitled ‘Volunteer Pride’, is one of 10 shortlisted in the national Community Rail Awards 2022.

They now need votes from the public to secure top prize.

The team is also in the running for two other awards.

It has entered the Influencing Positive Change and Sustainability category for the work done on the mapping of species at the station by a geographical information system.

The restoration of a wooden Victorian building on platform one into Goostrey Art Studio is the focus of its submission for Most Enhanced Railway Spaces.

Chris Burgess, from FOGSm said: “We are all very proud of what we have achieved in the past nine years and particularly the restoration of the old station building which has been transformed into an art studio for the benefit of everyone in Goostrey.

“The station was an unwelcoming place before a handful of enthusiastic volunteers transformed it to make it somewhere the whole village can be proud of.

“The photo captures that pride and we hope people will support us by voting.”

The winner of the photograph which best captures the essence of community rail, will be chosen by the public.
