EXUBERANT students jumped for joy after receiving brilliant A levels.

Knutsford Academy was bursting with pride and joy as sixth formers with excellent grades rejoiced.

Their achievements are all the more incredible as this was the first time they have sat external exams in high school, due to the pandemic.

Headteacher James Whittaker said: “Congratulations to all our students on their richly deserved results.

“This group has suffered significant disruption to their academic study.

“We are very proud of the way they have coped under these unparalled pressures and are thrilled that they are now able to move on with excellent grades to the next exciting stage of their lives.

“Thank to their teachers who have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education or employment.”

Performing arts students Kyle Baron and Amy Chatelet gained distinction in musical theatre, A in dance and B in drama.

Kyle, who is off to Trinity Laban in London to become a professional dancer, said: “It’s amazing, I’m so happy.

“It’s been a challenge but we’ve had amazing teachers.”

Amy, who is off to the Northern Contemporary Dance School in Leeds, said: “I’m really chuffed. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind but it shows that anything is possible.

“My biggest dream is to tour Asia in a company with Matthew Bourne.”

Amelia Key is thrilled after gaining A in sociology and Philosophy and B in English literature.

Amelia, who is off to the University of Nottingham, said: “I’m looking forward to becoming a teacher.

“The exams were quite daunting as we didn’t have any experience due to the pandemic but I’m really grateful for all the support we have received. Our teachers have been amazing.”

Charlotte Tims starts a degree apprenticeship at Barclays on Monday.

“I’m very excited,” said Charlotte, who gained As in maths and finance and Bs in art and geography.

“I’m hoping to be an accountant.”

Alison McGeehan, head of maths, said: “I’m very proud of her. She has been a superstar all the way through school.

“She’s done absolutely brilliantly.”

Alex Martin already has his eyes set on number 10 after gaining A* in politics and As in history and drama.

He said: “I hope to go into politics and eventually become Prime Minister.

“Politics interests me because of the ability to change lives.

Alex is off to Lancaster University to study combined honours in politics, history and philosophy.

Emily Hornsey has won a place at the University of Nottingham to study criminology and sociology after gaining A*, A and B grades.

She said: I’m delighted I got in. I can’t believe it.”

Ellie Moore, off to Leeds University to study psychology after gaining three As, said: “I’m quite shocked that I’ve actually got in to where I want to go after all this Covid.”

Lucy Aston-Stott, who gained three A*s and plans to study history and politics at York University, said: “I’m really happy. I didn’t expect to get these if I’m honest.

“I did work really hard and it is nice to get these results.”

Leo Davies, off to Belfast University to study anthropology and English after gaining A*, A and B, said: “I think the most amazing thing about getting your results is that you can feel your hard work paying off when you know that you’ve done your best.”

Standing outside the school, proud mum Lorraine Bashford said: “This place has served our family so well, I’m so grateful.”
