A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs after police searched bars in Wilmslow.

Officers visited seven bars on Saturday as part of Op Powdered, an ongoing operation targeting recreational drug use across Cheshire.

Officers from Macclesfield Local Policing Unit, with support from the Special Constabulary and a police drugs dog, conducted checks at seven licensed premises.

Four searches were made after a drugs dog indicated a substance could be present.

A 39-year-old man from Wilmslow was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled class A drug (cocaine).

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiry.

Detective chief inspector Duncan Gouck said: “Any drug related activity will not be tolerated and this weekend has shown how we are doing all we can to crackdown on this crime.

“Recreational drug use is not just a one off, it is fuelling criminal activity around the county, abetting the exploitation of the most vulnerable in our society and lining the pockets of organised crime gangs.

“Not only this, but the ingredients in drugs such as cocaine are simply not fit for human consumption and contain the likes of poison and cleaning products.

“So I would urge those who do take ‘just a line of cocaine’ at the weekend to stop and just think about the wider picture of their actions.”
