IF you’re looking for a new and unique way to relax and unwind, then this Wilmslow business has you covered.

Float Therapy recently opened at 82 Chapel Lane in the town and does exactly what it says on the tin – floating on Epsom salt-infused water in a special sensory deprivation pod, allowing your troubles to sail away.

Paul Roberts and partner Nathan Jones had both previously tried flotation therapy and decided to bring its wealth of benefits to Wilmslow residents.

Explaining the business idea, Paul said: “It’s about sensory deprivation.

“We don’t realise that subconsciously things like light and sound and smells even, are affecting the mind’s ability to relax when you’re at home.

“The pods remove those stimuli and that complements the effects of the water and the Epsom salt.”

The business’ two pods each measure 8ft by 5ft, allowing plenty of room for even the tallest of customers.

The water is heated to skin temperature and each pod has 550kg of high-quality Epsom salt (which helps to relax muscles amongst other health benefits), creating an environment where the body can naturally float.

There is a lid which covers the pod, meaning people can float weightless in the silence and darkness, helping the brain enter a deeply relaxed state.

And for those who may be anxious about being in the dark or in an enclosed space, the client is fully in control of the lights and how far they wish to close the lid of the pod.

Paul explained how flotation therapy can help with insomnia, anxiousness, muscle recovery, joint pain and other health issues.

“Studies have also shown that it’s a great creative space and allows for creative thinking,” Paul added.

Float Therapy’s Chapel Lane location also has a room with mirrors, hairdryers and hair straighteners to allow people to get ready for the rest of their day, and a chill-out room with herbal tea – all spectacularly decorated.

“We came to view the property and at first we weren’t too optimistic, but then we saw it and we thought ‘we can really make it work’,” Paul said.

“It’s a really nice little street too with lots of small independent business.”

Float Therapy is open to ages 16 and over and Paul says he has clients book in for all sorts of reasons.

“Coming off the back of Covid and lockdown and the effects they have had, people are becoming much more interested in mindfulness,” he said.

“Flotation therapy allows you to invest in yourself, take some time for you and completely switch off from the world.

“If you’re unsure in any way, contact us and arrange to come and have a look around.

“People can reach out and ask any questions.”
