Fashion buyer launches 'dream shop' for mums and babies

Kaley Gibbons has jetted all over the world capturing the latest trends for top high street stores.

The Knutsford mum wanted to keep her cherished career but had to re-think after having two young children.

When she was offered redundancy during the pandemic, she decided to fulfil her lifelong ambition.

The 36-year-old is launching her own business, Mini and Moi, in Minshull Street on Saturday, August 6 with a weekend of discounts, giveaways, free Prosecco and taster events.

“I have wanted to have a shop since I was 19,” said Kaley, who has worked for Next, JD Sports and George.

“I have been buying for other people. I made sacrifices and gave up a lot because I loved the job.

“I needed my career but I couldn’t take my children around the world.

“My end goal has always been to do it for myself.”

Kaley is not just opening a shop, but creating a space where mums can meet, talk, relax and breastfeed.

Upstairs, a range of activities, run by various specialists, can be booked.

Former midwife Jo Little will offer ante natal classes.

Baby sensory, soft play and massage sessions, children’s mindfulness classes, newborn and pregnancy photoshoots, craft sessions and a nail bar will also be available.

“Knutsford is lacking this kind of thing for mums,” said Kaley, who has a 10-month-old daughter Ivy and son Quinlan, three.

“I’m not going to have a window display. Instead I’m putting in a big seat where mums can sit and chat and share their feelings.”

Every effort is being made to support women.

“I source clothes made by mums who have created a brand around working at home with their children,” said Kaley.

“The children’s wear I stock will be a little bit different, very fresh and modern.

“We will be selling really unique special pieces as well as toys, trikes, accessories, jewellery, cards and journals.

“Mums can buy something to treat themselves or choose a gift for someone.”

Creating this unique concept has been a labour of love.

“Nothing stops me, it’s been really hard work,” said Kaley, who only got keys to the new shop six weeks ago.

“I’ve been putting my children to bed, walking down here and painting until 10.30pm.

“It has been tough doing this alongside two babies.

“I don’t want mums to feel trapped after they have a baby. You can get back career wise after a child.

“I had a dream and I’ve done it. It is exciting.

“If you want something, you can make it happen.”

Mini and Moi will be open from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday, when children can have their faces painted.

Kaley is offering 10 per cent off all products this weekend and customers will have the chance to win a free bike.
