A MAN from Allostock has avoided jail after he attacked a woman, causing her actual bodily harm.

David Millington, of Chapel Lane, was given a suspended prison sentence for the assault on April 30 this year.

The 47-year-old had originally denied the offence, but changed his plea to guilty at Chester Magistrates Court on May 30.

Millington was appearing before Judge Patrick Thompson at Chester Crown Court on Monday, August 1, where he was also slapped with a community order.

Under the terms of that he must complete 100 hours of unpaid work, which which will be in addition to the outstanding number he failed to complete on a previous order.

The judge extended that period by another six months so that Millington can complete that punishment too.

Millington was handed an 18-month prison sentence but was spared an immediate spell behind bars as the judge suspended that period in custody for two years.

He will also undergo an alcohol treatment programme with the probation service, which is expected to last for at least six months.

Millington was also made the subject of a restraining order and was told not to make any contact with his victim for a period of two years.

He must also pay a £156 surcharge which will go towards funding victim services.
