BURSTING with pride, excited children couldn’t wait to show off their home grown fruit and vegetables.

Pupils at Bexton Primary School were thrilled to create an allotment at the RHS Flower Show in Tatton Park.

The youngsters spent months painstakingly nurturing seeds and plants at their school gardening club in Knutsford.

Lettuces, garlic, blackcurrants and herbs are among the fresh produce they have been lovingly tending.

The children, aged nine and 10, took it in turns to spend a day at the showground telling visitors about their project.

Year 5 teacher Amanda Stephenson, who runs the club with year 4 teacher Tom Wyatt, said: “So many people are coming up and chatting to the children.

“They have really enjoyed talking about their allotment.

“The children have shown unbelievable commitment.

“We have been so impressed with their ability to help design the garden.

“It’s a very hands-on club. We love to create opportunities for them to try.”

Tom Wyatt said: “We’ve been working hard all year and the children deserve to feel really proud of their efforts.”

A royal theme was incorporated into the garden to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Teacher Kerry Bentley helped children to make a corgi and figures of the Queen, Princess Charlotte and Man Utd soccer star Marcus Rashford.

Pupil Jemima Woolf said: “I love planting fruit and can’t wait to pick the strawberries.”

Mya Thomas said: “I like watching the plants grow. We sowed seeds and learnt how to pot on.

“I love garlic. My favourite is garlic bread.”

Headteacher Emily Armstrong said: “This has been a real team effort with the school community, including ex-members of staff, teaching assistants, teachers and children.

“We had wonderful support from Yellow Duck Removals who gave up a significant amount of their time to help us move all the plants and equipment to set up the garden.

“We are very lucky to have such a supportive community around us.”
