A FAMILY-RUN business is celebrating after being named one of Britain’s top 100 fastest growing companies.

Healthcare construction specialist MTX, based in Wilmslow, is featured in the prestigious Sunday Times league table, published today, Friday, July 1.

This cutting edge company achieved unprecedented success in 2021, despite the pandemic.

This specialist building firm has delivered more than 300 operating theatres and 2,500 bed spaces for NHS trusts across the UK.

Innovative projects, using the very latest construction methods and new technology, have provided vital modern healthcare accommodation worth £140 million.

MTX managing director David Hartley said: “We are thrilled to be recognised in this year’s Sunday Times Top 100 fastest growing companies.

“In recent years, there has been a big push on modern methods of construction as opposed to traditional ones.

“A large majority of the construction now takes place in a factory which keeps disruption down for busy hospitals.”

The company, which has 65 employees, recorded sales of £83.4 million last year, a growth of 85 per cent.

The firm was founded in 2002 by chairman Gerald Hartley and eldest son David, later joined by younger son Steven as project director.

“We always had an ambitious vision,” said David.

“We have come a long way, it’s been incredible for our team.”

Dedicated to nurturing talent means that all MTX directors started working for the business as apprentices.

The flourishing firm is set to create more jobs as commissions flood in.

“Hopefully we will bring lots of new talent up through the ranks, growing our number of apprentices,” said David.

“In the coming year, we will be adding 10 new jobs directly to our team and indirectly, another 100 staff.

“At any one time we have 800 people working for us nationally on our construction sites.”

Building off site means MTX can cut the time it takes to complete a programme by half and reduce their carbon footprint by up to 45 per cent.

“The NHS new hospitals programme is committed to big investment over the coming years,” said David.

“People are getting older and science is improving so there is a whole host of investment required to continue to serve our community.

“It is not going to stop. We are going on a journey in parallel with the NHS.

“The future is very exciting.”

MTX supports several local charities and has pledged to support mental health awareness and improve gender balance within the industry.

The business has donated more than £200,000 to local causes, initiatives and community projects.

This pioneering company has won several prestigious accolades.

MTX received the Best Modular/Mobile Healthcare Facility Award and highly commended project recognition at the Building Better Healthcare Awards in 2021.
