SIX months after opening the doors to their unique café in Latchford, Stuart Lawton and Katherine Hibbert’s business is booming.
Toast is located in The Railway building on Knutsford Road and officially opened for business in November last year.
The venue is the latest winner in our Best of competition taking Warrington’s Best Breakfast crown with a landslide victory in the voting earlier this week.
Each week, we focus on different categories to find the best that Warrington has to offer with awards for hair, nails, beauty and fitness being given out as well as fish and chips, pies and pubs already decided.
Toast was named Best for Breakfast 2022 and co-owners Stuart and Katherine couldn’t be happier.
The old school friends had often talked about opening a café before finally deciding to take a leap of faith at the end of last year and up popped Toast.
The former St John’s High School students run the small but perfectly set up café with a dedicated team of seven members of staff, cooking, serving and chatting to customers seven days a week.
The new business venture has proven to be so popular that the pair are hoping to open a burgers and shakes place at the opposite end of Latchford within the next few weeks.
Stuart said: “We’re not professionals or restaurateurs and neither of us have done anything like this before but we make it work.
“It’s such a small space that there’s nowhere to hide and the kitchen and café are in the same place, which means customers can see what’s happening and we can experience the lively atmosphere.
“We’re pleasantly surprised by how well the business has done in the first six months and we’re really enjoying it.
“We’re open every day until 3pm serving breakfast and lunch but our recent burger night has proved to be so popular that it’s evolved into a new business of its own.
“Burgers, desserts and shakes will be on the menu for customers wanting something to eat later in the day at the other end of Latchford.”
Toast’s popular menu features all the breakfast favourites like a full English, bacon and sausage butties and beans on toast as well as alternative options like smashed avocado on toast, halloumi and scrambled eggs and Belgian waffles.
The hardworking team have a promotion each week offering a free hot or cold drink to customers with a particular name, chosen at random every Monday.
Recent shout outs have included Nick and Nicola, followed by names shared by members of the rotal family, then Charlotte and Charlie before George, Georgie, Georgia and Georgina.
This week anyone whose name starts with EL can pop into the café and claim their free hot or cold coffee.
Nominations for Toast came flooding in when we asked for readers to name their favourite place for breakfast and their customers then voted them the winner.
Recommendations said Toast is “undoubtedly the best in town” and “simply the best” with “amazing breakfasts” and “food which is fresh, delicious and great value for money”.
Stuart said: “We’re delighted to have won Best for Breakfast 2022 and we owe our customers such a lot.
“We get verbal feedback all the time with people saying they’ve had the best bacon butty ever or the most delicious breakfast, and now we have an award to prove it.
“We source good quality local products, put care and attention into how we cook them and then serve them to our customers in the café, which has a great atmosphere and creates a fantastic experience for everyone.”
