TRIBUTE has been paid to all involved in Knutsford Junior Netball Club's successful weekend away competing in a high standard tournament.

The club's eldest team, the Dynamos, capped a great adventure by winning silver medals at the PGL Netball Tournament staged at Boreatton Park, near Shrewsbury.

But the 40 girls aged between 12 and 15 across the four teams gained much more than that – a residential experience that will long live in the memory.

Between games, which involved many county players, the teams participated in adventure activities and in the evenings enjoyed a fun programme of entertainment, all aimed at enhancing team spirit and bonding.

"The tournament is fiercely competitive and attracts many of the best netball clubs from around the north west and the west midland regions," said chairman and head coach Ron Smith.

"All four teams did tremendously well and, for all of them, it was their first and most enjoyable experience of such an exhausting event.

"In particular, the 15 years old Dynamos team, having already won their six league matches over the weekend, were successful in getting through to and winning their semi-final match and only just lost by a few goals in their finals match to secure their well-deserved silver medals."

The Dynamos scored 81 goals across six matches to reach the semi-finals, which was more than any other team in their category.

Ron highlighted how such an experience does not occur without a great deal of hard work behind the scenes.

"The teams were incredibly well supported and encouraged to be both highly competitive and to enjoy themselves by a handful of adult volunteer coaches and team managers who were on duty 24/7 and the club is very grateful to them for giving up their weekend," he said.

Knutsford Junior Netball Club is long established in the heart of the community, with more than 100 players from the ages of 5 to 16 years old who regularly train at Knutsford Leisure Centre.

The club's volunteer coaching adults are all England Netball qualified and ably supported by volunteer parent team managers whenever competitive matches are played, such as at the Stockport Ball Hall where the sides play in leagues every Sunday.
