A CRICKET club is looking forward to an important year on and off the field after hosting its inaugural family fun day.
Toft Cricket Club kicked off the new season last Saturday (April 23) with the first team's opening match against Didsbury, while visitors were treated to a feast of activities.
More than 400 people attended the special event, which also served to officially launch the club's fundraising campaign for a new pavilion building.
Emma Hamilton, Toft CC community manager, was delighted to welcome the community to the club.
She said: "We wanted to celebrate our new season with a family fun day to welcome the whole community along to our club.
"At this time of year it’s a great place to visit and enjoy a drink or two in possibly the largest beer garden in Knutsford, and we’re hoping this will be the first of many events during the season."
During the fun day, the club’s BBQ and Pavilion Bar supplied refreshments, as well as local coffee house Tatton Perk, for members and non-members keen to enjoy the weather.
Silk FM provided the music and local groups were invited to join in too, giving families information about what’s on in the local community as well as face painting and other fun activities for children.
Club chairman Nigel Muirhead added: “This is an important year for Toft on and off the field.
"We have teams competing across the spectrum of our membership: adults, seniors, women and of course juniors, which is very exciting, but we’re also launching our new pavilion fund project.
"We’re looking to raise money for a new pavilion building in the next few years, there’s so much going on, the club is thriving and a great place to be.”
Also in attendance was outgoing Knutsford mayor Stewart Gardiner who, along with the families in attendance, was happy to enjoy some time outdoors in the sunshine.
As one of the leading clubs in Cheshire, Toft is also hosting two T20 matches against Cumbria on Bank Holiday Monday (May 2) with the bar open from 11am when the match starts, and the BBQ available from 1pm. All are welcome.
