ARMED police swooped on a Traveller site after reports a large number of men armed with weapons were at the scene.

The alarm was raised at Broadoak Lane in Mobberley at around 4.10pm on Tuesday, April 19.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: ”Local officers, supported by the Armed Policing Alliance, were dispatched and on arrival all those involved had fled the scene.

“There were no reports of any injuries although a number of vehicles were damaged at the address during the incident.

“Following a number of enquiries officers stopped a silver Mercedes on the M6 near to junction 12 and arrested five people in connection with the incident.”

Five men have now been charged.

Francis Connors, 27, of Langport Road, Wrantage, Taunton, has been charged with affray and bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates on May 17.

The following four men have been remanded in custody to appear at Chester Crown Court on May 19.

Tony Coyle, 18, of Mere Road, Bitterswell, faces charges of affray, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

Michael Ward, 19, of no fixed abode has been charged with affray, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

Martin Ward, 21, of Mere Road, Bitterswell, faces charges of affray, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

A 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons has been charged with affray, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.
