HIGH Legh Primary School under 11s football team are set to make an appearance on the national stage.

The students have reached the national finals of the English Schools Football Association Small Schools Cup.

They will carry the hopes of the school, village and county at the home of a Premier League team in May or June.

The boys booked their ticket to the prestigious deciding stages when they impressed in the North of England finals in Newcastle on March 16.

They drew their first game 0-0 against their counterparts from Greater Manchester.

High Legh followed that with three wins, the results being 2-1, 2-0 and 4-1.

Some fantastic goals were scored by Harry Whitehead and Seb Roberts, but overall the success came down to fantastic team performances.

They finished second in the overall league table to the team from Greater Manchester, who had the same points awarded but had a one-goal superior goal difference.
