A PLEA to support local traders has been made as a reflection day is held to mark the second anniversary of the first lockdown.

The mayor of Knutsford says the town is ‘very lucky’ to have such wonderful shops, businesses, bars, cafes and restaurants.

Shoppers and visitors, he said, are crucial to stimulate local trade.

Cllr Stewart Gardiner said: “We have a very good offer when it comes to the daytime and night-time economy.

“I want to encourage people to use it or lose it.

Some people, he recognises, remain fearful about going out.

“We need to support people who still feel scared about the virus,” said Cllr Gardiner.

“The negative aspect to lockdown is how it impacted on our mental health, development as a person and our ability to interact with family and friends.”

Knutsford Town Council is doing all it can to help businesses to recover.

Cllr Mike Houghton, chairman of events and town centre management, said: “We have a full programme of events for the forthcoming year, including the Easter Bunny Hop, a music festival and various seasonal activities.
