TWO passengers who failed to pay their train fares have been hit with a £400 court bill.
Dean Hou, 29, of Longridge, Knutsford, was unable to produce a valid ticket or promise to pay notice when asked by an inspector on October 15 last year.
The defendant was travelling between Knutsford and Altrincham, Manchester Magistrates Court was told on March 4.
Tickets are on sale at Knutsford railway station and the machine was in working order on the day of his journey.

Hou was issued with a penalty fare notice for either £20 or twice the single fare, whichever is greater.
Payment or appeal must be made within 21 days and full instructions of where to send payment or appeal is clearly printed on the notice.
Two reminder letters were sent when no payment was received after two further requests.
The £5.40 fare remains unpaid.
Magistrates found the case proved.
Hou was fined £220 and ordered to pay £150 costs, £34 victim surcharge and £5.40 to cover the outstanding train fare.
The defendant was given until April 1 to pay the £409.40 court bill.
Passenger Branagh McNamara, 24, of Stanley Road, Knutsford, was unable to produce a valid ticket or promise to pay notice when asked by an inspector on September 30, last year.
The defendant boarded a train at Plumley railway station, where ticket purchasing facilities are available.
Manchester Magistrates Court was told on March 4 that McNamara had been given a penalty fare notice for either £20 or twice the single fare, whichever is greater.
McNamara failed to respond to two further requests for payment and the £6.70 fare remains unpaid.
After finding the case proved, magistrates issued a fine of £220 and ordered the defendant to pay £150 costs, £34 victim surcharge and £6.70 compensation to cover the cost of the unpaid ticket.
McNamara was given until April 1 to settle the £410.70 court bill.
