RESIDENTS in a Cheshire village are getting set to pedal hundreds of kilometres to show support for the people of Ukraine.

Pickmere Community Group and The Farm Club are joining forces to raise money for the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Simon Read, of Pickmere Community Group, said the residents didn't just want to raise money but show their support too.

"We are aiming to use the training cycles at the club to rider 540km in just three hours," he said.

"The distance between Pickmere and Kyiv is approximately 5,400km.

"Over the weekend, both myself and Rob Platt of the Farm Club, will be collecting money and co-ordinating the event.

"All are welcome to come down and donate and if they want to, have a cycle.

"We have several volunteers already but need people to come down and ride a shift to hit that 540km."

The charity bike ride will take place on Sunday, March 20 - with the plan for it be completed in just three hours - between 1pm-4pm.

"We will keep a running score on the Pickmere Press Facebook page and at The Farm Club Cafe," Simon added.

"There are seven fitness bikes in total and these will be used to clock up and record the miles.

"Obviously the object is to raise money but we also wish to show our support to the people of the Ukraine and to those people in our village who have family and friends caught up in the invasion."
