IT looks like we may have a star of the future on our hands in the world of tennis.

Having impressed on these shores, Alderley Edge’s Maldini Simic now has the chance to hone her talents ‘across the pond’ in America.

The 17-year-old, who is currently studying at Wilmslow High School’s Sixth Form, has been awarded a four-year tennis scholarship to attend Hope International University in California.

As well as playing tennis for the Royals, she will also study political science and international relations while in the States.

It is the latest step in Simic’s progression following an impressive junior career which saw her feature prominently for Alderley Edge Tennis Club and earn representative honours for both Cheshire and Lancashire.

Some of her successes at age group level include winning the Malvern Open women's tournament and taking home the top prize in under 18s tournaments in Bath and Glasgow over the past year.

Simic – a former pupil of Alderley Edge School for Girls – will head out to the States to start her time at Hope in August.
