A CARE assistant says she is 'stunned' to be nominated by her colleagues for a prestigious award.

Helen Mills has been commended at Carefound Home Care in Wilmslow for her outstanding efforts.

Staff are invited to vote for the best examples of colleagues going above and beyond to demonstrate the company's values – personalised, local, accountable, together and outstanding (Plato).

Helen, who received £100 in gift vouchers, said: "I was stunned when my care management team rang me to say I had won the Plato award.

“It really is humbling to know that my colleagues have gone to the trouble of nominating and voting for me. It just seems normal to step in and help when somebody needed me most and I was honoured to be able to help my client and their family have their wish of dying at home.”

“It’s a lovely boost to know you're appreciated. I loved receiving my flowers and voucher and I wear my Plato badge with pride.”

Hayley Gill, care manager at Carefound Home Care, said: "We’re so proud of Helen for being recognised by her colleagues for going above and beyond in providing end of life care.

“Providing the best possible care for somebody in their last days of life can be challenging and hugely rewarding.

"Helen not only built a special relationship with her client and family, but she also ensured they received continuity of care by providing support through the nights while continuing to do her full-time role during the day.”

“Thanks to our amazing care assistants like Helen more people are able to have their wish of dying in the comfort of their own home with family and loved ones close by.”
