A PORSCHE driver has been fined £500 for doing almost twice the speed limit through roadworks on the M6.

Mark Cripps, 46, of Moss Lane, Alderley Edge, pleaded guilty at Birmingham Magistrates Court to exceeding the speed limit on August 7, last year.

The defendant was caught on camera driving a Porsche at 78mph in a zone which had a temporary speed restriction of 40mph, the court heard on January 13.

The car was recorded exceeding the speed limit between junctions seven and eight on the northbound carriageway in the West Midlands.

Cripps was fined £583 ordered him to pay £110 costs, £58 victim surcharge and endorsed his licence with six points.

The bench said they took the defendant’s guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.

Magistrates gave the defendant until February 10 to pay the £751 court penalty.
