The seven-day Covid case rate in Cheshire East remains high as hundreds of new cases were recorded in the latest 24-hour period.

Accordig to figures released by Public Health England, there were 673 new cases in the latest 24-hour period, taking the borough's total to 86,159.

This means there were 7,123 new cases in Cheshire East in the last seven days, giving a rate of 1,842.2 per 100,000 people.

In neighbouring Cheshire West, there were 577 new cases recorded in the latest 24 hour period, between 4pm on January 12 and 4pm today.

This takes the borough's total since the start of the pandemic to 80,886.

It also means there have been 6,630 new cases in the last week, taking the borough's seven-day rate to 1,928.3 per 100,000 of the population.

Nationally, there were 109,133 new cases recorded across the UK.
