URGENT plans are underway to offer Covid booster jabs in Knutsford so everyone eligible can be vaccinated by the end of the year.

GP led sites are set to open in the coming weeks.

Residents currently have to travel out of town to receive their vaccinations.

Some people had been sent to clinics in Timperley.

A spokesperson for NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “Intensive work is underway with partners to respond to the new national target to offer a Covid-19 booster to all who are eligible by the end of the year.

"As part of this work, several GP-led sites, including Knutsford, are planning to offer booster jabs.

"Further details on this will be confirmed and communicated once work has been finalised."

Samantha Pownall, executive manager of Knutsford Medical Partnership, said: "In line with Government advice Knutsford Medical Practice ceased being part of the national vaccination programme at the end of November.

"However in view of the rapid spread of Omicron, and the evidence of the importance of a booster dose, Knutsford Medical Partnership is planning to restart vaccinations as soon as possible.

"We have legal and logistical issues to complete before we can start, however this will be as soon as possible.

"We would urge all residents of Knutsford to get a booster dose as soon as possible.

"All bookings for the next phase will be via the National Booking Service, please do not phone the local surgeries to book a vaccination as they cannot do this.

"Knutsford Medical Practice will once again be grateful to be supported by local volunteers who previously helped run the successful service last year and will be in touch with the organisations who helped."

At present people aged over 30 are eligible for the booster vaccine.

"This will expand to include everyone over 18 in the next few weeks," said Ms Pownall.

"Despite this we will have to deploy a significant number of doctors, nurses and other health professionals to support the rapid role out as well as our supporting administration staff.

"We ask all patients to recognise the pressure this will put upon local GP services."

Thousands more appointments are being added daily to the National Booking Service.
