CROWDS packed the streets for the return of Holmes Chapel Christmas Market and Fair.

Festive stalls, live entertainment, Santa's sleigh and funfair turned the village into a winter wonderland on Sunday.

Twinkling fair lights, mulled wine, merriment and gleeful squeals from the fairground created a carnival atmosphere.

The much-missed event took place for the first time in two years following months of hard work by local voluntary organisation Holmes Chapel Partnership.

Volunteers worked tirelessly since to ensure this year’s market was was the best yet, while also ensuring a Covid safe environment.

Peter Whiers, project officer for Holmes Chapel Partnership, who organised the event, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of this year’s event and would like to thank everyone involved for their contributions to what was an incredibly special community evening.

"It has been two years since our last Christmas Market and Fair and it was clear during the event how much it meant to everyone attending to be able to come out and support our village businesses, independent traders, schools, and local performers.”

Five local organisations Holmes Chapel Parish Council, Anwyl Homes, Massey Feeds, Recipharm and Sibelco, sponsored the not-for-profit event.

Thomas Bradley, senior sales manager for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said: “It was great to show our support for the Holmes Chapel Christmas Market Fair, which helped to spread festive cheer throughout the village.

"Sponsoring this event was our way of saying thank you to local residents who have been so patient with us while we’ve undertaken works in the area, linked to the new homes we’re building at Victoria Mills."

The Villages Mag supported the event by designing a free map and pull-out guide to the evening which featured in the December edition of its Holmes Chapel magazine.

Holmes Chapel Partnership remains busy this month raising money for local organisations via its annual Santa’s sleigh run.

This year the sleigh will be out on local streets until December 17 led by Holmes Chapel Scouts, Holmes Chapel Guides, Goostrey Scouts, Brereton Scouts, Holmes Chapel Pre-School, Holmes Chapel Viking Explorer Scouts, Dane Sound Radio, Holmes Chapel Primary School PTA and Bridge The Gap.

Each group will receive a share of the charitable donations.
