TRAIN passengers are being warned of delays and cancellations due to a broken down freight train.

The railway line between Chester and Knutsford is blocked.

Services between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly are currently being disrupted due to a broken down freight train in the Plumley area.

Buses are now being provided to ferry passengers along this route.

A spokesman for Northern said: "To assist customers to complete their journey, road transport has been provided between Northwich and Altrincham in both directions calling at Altrincham, Hale, Ashley, Mobberley, Knutsford, Plumley, Lostock Gralam and Northwich.

Ticket acceptance has been granted for Northern ticket holders to travel on
Transport for Wales services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester via Warrington Bank Quay and MetroLink services between Altincham and Piccadilly
