A KNUTSFORD golfer has retained his place in England men’s 12-man squad for the 2022 season.

Jack Brooks – Mere Golf Club Resort and Spa’s tournament ambassador – will join six previous team-mates and five debutants at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa.

The 30-year-old is selected after a stellar run of form, culminating in his victory at the North of England Open Amateur Championship in September.

The Mere-based player won the showpiece end-of-season event at Seaton Carew as he defied a brutal weekend of weather to win by four strokes.

Going into the last day in which 36 holes were played, Brooks found himself three shots off overnight leader Jack McPhail but displayed superb patience and skill to battle his way back.

Brooks finished three under par for his final 36 holes and his victory fired him into the top 100 of the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings.

The 30- year-old will hope to be a key figure at the European Amateur Team Championship at Royal St George’s in July followed by the R&A Home Internationals and the World Amateur Team Championship in August.

The England Golf team will look to follow in the footsteps of previous graduates Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Charley Hull.

Stephen Burnett, performance manager for men’s golf, commented: “Next summer looks very bright for elite men’s amateur golf, culminating in three tournaments in July and August.

“We have a very talented group of UK and US-based players raring to go, all working hard to improve under the coaching team of Graham Walker, Paul Ashwell and Gareth Jenkins.

“Competition for England team places will be tough both inside the squad and from those pushing to be noticed from the wider talent pool we have across the country.

“It promises to be a very exciting year!”
