CHILDREN dressed up as rock and pop stars to celebrate their incredible prowess with numbers.

Manor Park and Bexton Primary schools took part in the fun-filled England Rocks 2021 national tournament which puts maths skills to the test.

Year four pupils set themselves a challenge of answering more than 100,000 correct multiplication and division questions in just one hour.

Youngsters from both Knutsford schools worked hard together as a team and after a non-stop 60 minutes of times table questions and rock music they completed the challenge.

With speed and accuracy, they answered a phenomenal 113,000 questions correctly in one hour, at an average of 1,255 per child.

It was all part of times table and rock music activities at Manor Park.

Each day the children took part in different games and challenges to earn points for their house and to win the covered rock wrangle trophy.

This year Warren were the winning house.

At the end of the week, all the children and staff dressed up as rock and pop stars to celebrated their success.

Simon Cotterill, headteacher of Manor Park Primary School, said: “I think it is brilliant that our children learn such important knowledge and skills in a fun way, listening to rock music.

"It was also great to team up with the staff and children from Bexton, the children had a blast.

"England Rocks 2021 is a national tournament which involved more than 4,000 schools. We are very proud to say that Manor Park finished in 31st place."

Emily Armstrong, headteacher of Bexton Primary School, said: “The children had a fantastic time working with Manor Park and smashed their original target of 100,00 times tables in an hour.

"They were so focused throughout and lots of fun was had by all. 

"We’d like to thank the Manor Park team for inviting us to join in such a great event and look forward to the next one."
