YEAR 4 students at High Legh Primary School have been enjoying fun and educational golf sessions.

They have been delivered by American Golf Academy at its High Legh Golf Club base via PGA professional Matt Dixon.

The weekly sessions have supported the Key Stage Two Physical Education curriculum.

As well as learning about golf equipment – and trying it out first-hand – the children have been taught about grip, stance and alignment.

They have had their swing and technique analysed, using Toptracer technology in one of the club’s 23 fitted out driving range bays.

The Toptracer technology enabled the children to see the flight of their golf ball on a screen so they could study its speed, distance and direction in order for them to improve.

Martin Robinson, regional sales manager, American Golf, said: “Introducing children to golf is important for the long-term sustainability of the sport. And at High Legh Golf Club we take pride in developing junior talent."We have a dedicated pitch & putt specifically designed with children in mind, so we’re well-equipped to provide schools sessions.

“It’s important for children to develop healthy exercise habits at a young age, so physical activity becomes a normality throughout their lifetime.

"We make the lessons as fun as possible, so the children don’t even realise they’re learning about the basics of physics, as well as developing their core muscles, motor coordination skills and learning how to focus."
