TOFT cricketer Phil Raikes is in Gibraltar’s 17-man squad for their T20 internationals this week.

The 31-year-old is set to make his debut in the Valletta Cup, a round-robin tournament consisting of Gibraltar, Malta, Bulgaria and Switzerland.

Gibraltar will play six matches in the coming five days, beginning their campaign against Malta at the Marsa Cricket Club.

The top order batsmen from Toft, who qualifies to play having been born in Gibraltar, has been named in the starting XI this afternoon.

The next week is extremely important for Gibraltar as a cricketing nation and their results could be vital in their hopes for future matches.

After facing Malta this afternoon, they play Switzerland tomorrow and Bulgaria on Saturday.

If they qualify as one of the top two sides, the final will take place at 2:00pm on Sunday.

The side will finish off the tour by playing Malta again on Monday in two separate T20 internationals.

Raikes will be hoping to assist Gibraltar to their first win of 2021 after they lost all four of their fixtures in the Portugal T20 Tri-series in August.
