WARRINGTON Town's unbeaten run now stands at four matches after a goalles draw with Whitby Town this afternoon.

In a game low on quality, both sides struggled for clear-cut opportunities although the visitors probably shaded things.

The biggest opportunity came as a result of an error from Town keeper Dan Atherton, who cleared straight to Marcus Giles who was then denied by a superb covering tackle from substitute Matt Regan.

The flow of the game was not helped by four enforced substitutions in the first half, with Eddie Clarke and Dom Reid forced off injured for Town.

Regan had Yellows' clearest opportunity in injury time, heading a Sean Williams corner off the top of the crossbar.

ANYONE heading to Cantilever Park this afternoon hoping for entertainment will have left sadly disappointed.

While Warrington Town can take heart from a third clean sheet in four games, that was about all that was good about this one.

Their defence was not the problem – the ever-consistent Mitch Duggan was once again superb while substitute Matt Regan performed admirably out of position at left-back.

Called into action after Eddie Clarke was injured in the first half, he provided Town’s best moments at both ends of the field.

His superb last-ditch challenge to deny a certain goal for Whitby’s Marcus Giles, who had rounded Dan Atherton having benefitted from a scuffed clearance from the Town stopper, was quite stunning.

And he came closest to scoring, too, with an injury-time header that kissed the top of the crossbar.

That their best moment in front of goal came from a defender pretty much summed up Yellows’ display in attack.

Creativity was scarce as Shane Bland went relatively untested between the Whitby posts.

Clarke and Dom Reid being forced off in the first-half did not help with the flow of things, but there was still enough on the field to make more of a go of things going forward.

Jordan Buckley was quiet until moving out to the left flank but even then, he rarely looked like making it seven league games in a row on the scoresheet.

Top scorer Jordan Buckley was kept quiet against Whitby

And therein lies the problem – if Buckley is not scoring, where are the goals coming from?

Bohan Dixon – a reliable source of goals from midfield down the years – is yet to hit the mark this season and wasted a decent first-half opportunity in blazing well over when well-placed.

Stationed out on the left in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation, he looked lost at times while the less populated midfield was too easily overrun.

Josh Amis too is struggling for goals too while neither Jay Harris nor Sean Williams are obvious candidates for chipping in from midfield.

It is a definite problem and one that needs fixing quickly.
